Rail services passing through Newport are facing significant disruption this morning after a fire broke out beside the tracks over the weekend. Keep checking here for ongoing developments.

Transport for Wales has confirmed that trains travelling between Newport and Cardiff Central in either direction will experience delays or cancellations, with the situation anticipated to continue until midnight on August 5.

The blaze has meant that a reduced number of trains can operate, and passengers should anticipate cumulative delays of approximately one hour.

Customers may travel on replacement services at no additional charge. These encompass:

Great Western Railway trains running between Swansea and Cardiff Central, as well as between Cardiff Central and Cheltenham Spa via Bristol in both directions

CrossCountry services between Cardiff Central and Cheltenham Spa

Transport for Wales has warned that bus replacement options are severely restricted, and travellers are being urged to defer trips unless absolutely necessary.

The following local bus services are available to help complete journeys without extra charge:

Stagecoach South Wales Route X24 between Newport and Pontypool via Cwmbran

Stagecoach South Wales Routes 21 and X3 between Pontypool and Cwmbran

Stagecoach South Wales Route 23 between Cwmbran and Hereford via Abergavenny

Stagecoach South Wales Route X3 serving Cardiff, Pontypool and Cwmbran

Stagecoach South Wales Route 11 between Cwmbran and Pontypool

Cardiff Bus Route 30 between Cardiff and Newport

Newport Bus Route X30 between Newport and Cardiff

This is what has been established thus far.

Trains between Newport and Gloucester are also affected, with all services in both directions cancelled until midnight on August 5.

Tickets will be accepted on the following substitute routes at no extra cost:

Great Western Railway via any reasonable route

Local bus services are also accessible without additional charge:

Newport Bus Routes 73 and X74 between Newport and Chepstow

Newport Bus Route 72 between Chepstow and Lydney
