A Newport man has received a suspended prison sentence after admitting voyeurism and offences involving indecent images.

Cardiff Crown Court heard that David Sedgmore possessed two category A indecent images of children, two category B images and 334 category C images. He also admitted possessing animal pornography. The offences took place in Pontypool on December 18 of the previous year.

A statement from the victim of the covert photography offence said she felt embarrassed and was worried that the photographs might have been shared. The court was also told about an earlier conviction involving a child being made to watch a sexual act. A community order was imposed in that case.

Defence barrister Jac Brown said Sedgmore had been in his early twenties when the current offences were committed, had experienced difficulties during childhood and had informed his employer about the case. Recorder Mark Cotter KC said the defendant was likely to be autistic.

Sedgmore was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for 18 months. He must attend an accredited programme, complete 15 days of rehabilitation activity and carry out 80 hours of unpaid work.

The judge also imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, a 10-year restraining order preventing contact with the voyeurism victim and a requirement to register as a sex offender for 10 years. A victim surcharge was imposed.
