The family of a 12-year-old boy has appealed for information after he was knocked unconscious by a rock allegedly thrown from a bridge in Newport.

Blake O’Shea was with friends near the river at about 6.30pm when a group of teenagers began throwing large rocks from the bridge above, according to information provided by his family. One struck the back of his head and left him unconscious with a head injury.

Blake was later able to return home and was reported to be doing well. His mother, Cloe Patricia, said the family was angry and shaken by the incident and by the fact that those responsible left without helping him. She thanked the people who stopped to assist and praised the friends who stayed with Blake.

The family is seeking information about three boys believed to be aged about 15 or 16. One was described as wearing glasses and a balaclava. A green and purple Sur-Ron electric bike was also reported in the area.

The injury caused particular concern because Blake had a stroke around six years ago. His family described him as positive and determined, and said he had recently performed on stage at school after gaining confidence.
