A 25-year-old Newport man was arrested at a Llanwern property on Thursday, August 27, during a police enquiry into cocaine and heroin dealing across Newport.

Gwent Police said the man was suspected of involvement in supplying both drugs. He was also arrested over alleged possession of cocaine with the intention of supplying it. He remained in custody while officers continued their enquiries.

The arrest was connected to Operation Krypton, a Gwent Police-led partnership targeting criminal activity and anti-social behaviour in Newport city centre. Launched in July 2026, the work has included drug-supply investigations, warrants, intelligence-led stop and searches and patrols in selected locations.

More than 23 arrests linked to drugs had been recorded since the launch, according to the force. Police had also detained suspects over burglary and assault, found stolen vehicles and seized other vehicles believed to be connected with offending.

Newport neighbourhood officer PC Matthew Tucker said the operation prioritised the protection of vulnerable people from drugs and related offending. Its investigators were concentrating on suspects believed to cause the most harm to local communities.
