Night-time lane and junction closures are happening along the M4 this week.

The eastbound on and off ramps at Junction 26 (Malpas) near Newport will be shut between 8pm and 6am every night through to mid-August to enable electrical work to be carried out.

These restrictions form part of a broader improvement and upkeep scheme along the motorway.

Travel authorities have urged motorists to plan for longer journeys during the affected periods, especially during late afternoon and first thing in the morning.

The shut ramps are situated at one of Newport’s primary motorway entry points and will be accessible during daylight hours only.

The Malpas interchange provides a vital link between the city and its surrounding region to the rest of the motorway system, handling substantial volumes of traffic as one of the most heavily used sections of the M4 in Newport.

Further overnight constraints are also in operation in the vicinity.

At Junction 25A (Grove Park), separate operations are ongoing involving the A4042 overbridge.

The project is element of a comprehensive maintenance initiative being delivered across the motorway network.

Drivers may view current road conditions and recommended alternative routes ahead of travel via the Traffic Wales online portal.

Signed diversions have been arranged for those impacted by the restrictions.
