All-female vocal ensemble seeks fresh talent
A celebrated choir with numerous accolades is searching for additional members to join its ranks.
Allegra, a highly accomplished Newport-based group renowned across Britain for exceptional performances and diverse musical programming, is inviting women aged 18 and above to audition. The ensemble particularly welcomes those with prior high-level choral experience who are eager to pursue musical excellence while enjoying camaraderie and shared passion.
The group’s musical director Robert T Elliott explains that the choir continuously strives to motivate and elevate its performers. In recent years, the ensemble has earned commendation for its technical mastery, with one competition judge describing one of their pieces as remarkably polished. While previous ensemble experience proves advantageous, the emphasis lies on harmonic vocal skills, sharp musical perception and solid rhythmic foundation. Belonging to one of South Wales’ most decorated choirs also means forming lasting bonds while embracing the thrill of collective performance. The group harbours ambitious goals but recognises that sustaining such achievement requires maintaining the enthusiasm and mutual support that define their rehearsal and concert environment. This represents an ideal moment to become involved, as the choir builds towards its most significant undertaking yet: the Peterborough International Female Choir Festival scheduled for June. Practices occur every Wednesday evening at St Julian’s Baptist Church, Newport, NP19 7PZ. A dedicated open evening has been arranged for Wednesday 16 September at 7.15pm, offering prospective members the chance to meet existing singers. Those unable to attend can contact the membership secretary at newmembers@allegraladieschoir.co.uk to learn more about the group’s accomplishments and what newcomers can contribute.
