A pop culture convention is heading to Ebbw Vale, bringing international celebrities to the town.

ValleysCon is making its return to Ebbw Vale later this month, offering a full day of famous guests, discussions, and activities at Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre.

The event, now in its fourth edition, was founded by Gavin Davies, who also operates Cymru Horror Con.

This year, artist Nathan Wyburn has joined as co-promoter. Mr Wyburn gained recognition after appearing on Britain’s Got Talent in 2011, where he became known for creating celebrity artwork using unconventional materials.

Mr Wyburn stated he originally attended ValleysCon as a visitor during the first three years, and praised the event’s growth under local organiser Gavin Davies. At the conclusion of last year’s ValleysCon 3, Mr Davies invited him to become a co-promoter and help expand the convention.

He noted the gathering benefits the town and contributes to the local economy through hotel bookings and use of nearby businesses.

This year’s lineup features Gareth David-Lloyd from Torchwood, Julian Lewis-Jones, former Doctor Sylvester McCoy, horror performer Dani Thompson, Sophie Aldred, Sam Locke, Steve Speirs, Amber Doig-Thorne, Matthew Pritchard from Dirty Sanchez, Mike Pancho Locke, and Bern Collaco.

Sophie Aldred, recognised for playing Ace alongside the seventh Doctor in Doctor Who, will also be present.

The schedule includes an appearance by content creator Dheanasaur, Hugh Spight, John Morris who provided the voice for Andy in Pixar’s Toy Story series, Mary Gibbs who voiced Boo in Monsters Inc, and Ieuan Rhys.

A Doctor Who discussion panel will take place featuring Mr McCoy and Ms Aldred.

Mr Wyburn mentioned panel discussions would be led by his close friend Wayne Courtney, a presenter from Radio Cardiff, who would interview several of the guests, including a dedicated Doctor Who segment.

Additional attractions feature performances from New Wave Wrestling Academy and various craft traders.

Attendees can purchase signed photos, take part in photo opportunities, and view exhibitions of famous vehicles and props from movies and television programmes.

Mr Wyburn described the event as promising to be excellent, noting that gathering all these personalities together in one venue would be remarkable. He mentioned a few more announcements were still to come and expressed considerable enthusiasm about the upcoming convention.

ValleysCon 4 is scheduled to take place at Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre on Saturday, August 29.
