A significant funding package will bring skilled employment opportunities and economic development to the South Wales Valleys region.

The Welsh Government has committed up to £9.25 million to acquire and modernise Unit 1 at Hirwaun Industrial Estate.

Rebecca Evans, who serves as cabinet secretary for economy, energy and planning, explained that stimulating economic growth represents a key focus for the administration. She emphasised that properly connected, high-standard commercial premises play an essential role in enabling business expansion and workforce development, and this funding would assist in providing the contemporary facilities required to draw advanced manufacturing companies to the Heads of the Valleys area while creating quality employment for residents.

The upgraded 97,300 square foot complex, situated on six acres of development land, is designed to draw external investment and assist current businesses in expanding their operations.

The location enjoys advantages from recent transport improvements stemming from the £2 billion upgrade of the A465, providing straightforward connections to Cardiff, Swansea, and the English Midlands.

This funding forms part of the Welsh Government’s continuing Tech Valleys initiative, which seeks to bring technology-focused employment and investment to the area.

Recent schemes completed under this programme include the development of RYB1 at Rhyd y Blew, a 52,000 square foot structure that became occupied by Halton Wales in December 2024.

Work on refurbishing Tech Valleys House, a 175,000 square foot complex that currently has a prospective tenant, is also in progress.
