The abandoned café that has repeatedly been targeted by arsonists has suffered another blaze.
The fire started on Nelson Road in Ystrad Mynach at approximately 6.40pm on Friday 31 July at the former Nancy’s Café premises.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident alongside officers from Gwent Police.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police confirmed that the force received notification of the blaze on Nelson Road in Ystrad Mynach at around 6.40pm on Friday 31 July. Personnel from South Wales Fire and Rescue accompanied officers to the location, and investigators determined the fire was intentionally set. The investigation into the full circumstances continues.
Traffic in Ystrad Mynach was held up for several hours, with Station Road and the railway station car park closed and experiencing significant delays.
Local residents have raised renewed concerns about the pattern of fires at the empty property, which previously housed Nancy’s Café and Lillies.
The location had also been hit by a deliberate fire in March 2026. During that incident, crews from Caerphilly, Roath, Aberbargoed and Treharris conducted a defensive exterior operation using four 45-metre water jets, breathing equipment and an aerial ladder unit. Firefighters searched the interior of the building before bringing the flames under control by 5.47pm.
The scene was subsequently transferred to Gwent Police, who established that this earlier fire had also been started deliberately and initiated their own probe.
On social platforms, locals have expressed that the recurring fires are deeply disturbing and distressing. Concerns have been raised regarding the effects on neighbouring residences and commercial premises.
