Commuters using Newport’s bus network are being notified of upcoming ticket price modifications scheduled to begin on Sunday, March 29.
Newport Bus has verified that the majority of ticket prices will climb by approximately 6.44 percent across its entire product range. The operator stated that this modification follows the previous alteration in 2025 and accounts for escalating operational expenditure, encompassing staffing, components and route costs.
Under the revised pricing structure, standard single tickets for adults will increment by roughly 14p on average, whilst equivalent all-day tickets will cost approximately 55p more. Nevertheless, the company maintains that frequent travellers will still enjoy some of the most affordable rates in South Wales, with weekly Zone 1 tickets priced at around £3.28 daily and four-week tickets starting from £2.45 per day.
To assist passengers following the price adjustment, Newport Bus has confirmed a price hold on its popular Trio and Trio Plus packages until May 31. These mobile application-exclusive offers enable customers to purchase three City Day or City Day Plus tickets in a single transaction, delivering savings exceeding 20 percent compared to buying day tickets separately. Costs will stay at £13 for the Trio package and £16 for Trio Plus throughout the freeze period, before increasing to £14.50 and £17.50 later in the year.

Complementing the ticket price changes, the operator is implementing several enhancements shaped by passenger input. These comprise expanding the Zone 2 limit eastward to include Magor, Penhow and the Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel establishment, alongside the creation of a fresh Cwmbran Zone for trips confined to the town boundary.
A novel Rover Dog Day Ticket will also be introduced, providing pet owners with the choice of buying a pass for unrestricted canine travel, with the exception of assistance dogs. Furthermore, fares connecting Magor, Caldicot and Chepstow will be streamlined, with certain costs reducing by as much as 15p to correspond with other Monmouthshire services.
Morgan Stevens, Managing Director of Newport Transport, explained that the modifications would assist in preserving essential services. He noted that the organisation continues to prioritise delivering the best possible value, though escalating expenses necessitate adaptation. He added that every pound collected is ploughed back into sustaining and enhancing their extensive local network.
