Risca Town Council has reaffirmed its intention to acquire up to four extra Christmas Festive Lanterns for the 2026 holiday season.
This decision was announced during the full council session on Monday, 9th March 2026.
Councillor Mike Parker presided over the proceedings, with fellow councillors Ffion Green, Mike Wedderien, Tony Davies, Louise Stephens, Charlotte Evans and Antony Green all present.
Clerk Robert Campbell was also in attendance, along with Heddlu Gwent Police community support officer Sophie Aplin. Rogerstone resident Robyn Taylor was present at the meeting.
Apologies were submitted by Councillor Sally Davies and County Councillor Bob Owen.
Virtual remote participation options were offered, though the clerk confirmed no requests for this facility were received.
Sophie Aplin presented the monthly policing update for February, indicating a decrease in criminal activity.
Three reports of antisocial conduct were logged during this period.
Members expressed appreciation for the ongoing information provided by the police force.
Robyn Taylor announced her candidacy for a vacant position on the Risca Primary School governing body.
Her nomination was approved, and she will serve as the council’s designated representative on the board, undertaking to share periodic reports on her work with the governing body.
The monthly financial statement put forward by the clerk was accepted by members as satisfactory. It was during this agenda item that the festive lantern purchase was confirmed.
Currently, the authority awaits correspondence from the Welsh Government and Caerphilly County Borough Council (CCBC) regarding the Boundary Commission’s proposals, which advocate for Risca’s consolidation into a single county ward and unified community council.
The council received an invitation to a web-based seminar addressing flood hazards, organised by Planning Aid Wales and scheduled for 11th March, with the clerk able to participate.
A collaborative session with CCBC has been arranged for Monday, 23rd March at the council’s Ty Penallta offices.
Furthermore, One Voice Wales has released its five-year policy platform.
Members reviewed the planned initiatives for 2026, with the summer hanging baskets and planters scheme noted.
