A hospice charity is calling on adventurous people to leap from aircraft for charity.

Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice is staging its third consecutive skydiving fundraiser, giving backers the opportunity to plunge from 10,000 feet while collecting essential donations.

The fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 8 and 9, at Swansea Airfield, with 60 spots open across the two days.

James Davies-Hale, the organisation’s fundraising manager, explained that undertaking a skydive represents a lifelong ambition for many individuals, and by joining Tŷ Hafan’s event participants would guarantee that no family faces their child’s limited lifespan without support.

Competitors will complete a paired dive, achieving velocities as high as 120 miles per hour throughout the uncontrolled descent.

Mr Davies-Hale stated that by completing a tandem jump from 10,000 feet above Swansea Airfield while gathering crucial contributions to assist the charity’s efforts with youngsters facing life-limiting illnesses and their relatives, supporters would enable the organisation to literally aim for the heavens.

Caerphilly local Philippa Langley volunteered for last year’s event.

According to Ms Langley, given her apprehension about flying and heights, what could be a more fitting test than a 10,000-foot sky dive.

She admitted that standing prior to the leap, she would not claim to have felt entirely calm.

The help from Tŷ Hafan staff was wonderful throughout the entire process from signing up through to the actual day of the event.

Their encouragement, kindness and confidence in what participants were accomplishing proved invaluable.

Sign-ups are accessible to those aged 18 and above with a fee of £50.

Every participant is expected to secure at least £500 in pledges. Tŷ Hafan supplies all requisite instruction on the day itself.
