Cwmbran Library has been rebranded as Cwmbran Community Hub and Library after experiencing increased demand for community activities and support services.
The facility now provides an extensive array of services, including social clubs, health and wellbeing assistance, digital literacy workshops, access to Citizens Advice guidance, and council customer service facilities.
Stephanie Morgan, team leader, explained that modern libraries have evolved beyond books to become venues where individuals can develop new abilities, socialise with others, and discover what is happening in their local area. She noted that one significant recommendation from the Torfaen Deal Citizens’ Assembly emphasised the importance of ensuring communities have access to information, and libraries play a vital role in fulfilling this objective.
Recent feedback from visitors through surveys has indicated that people appreciate having various groups and organisations available together in a convenient central location.
Janet Morris, a Cwmbran resident who participates in digital drop-in sessions at the hub and library, described the environment as welcoming and noted that staff members are always willing to assist. She mentioned that the drop-in sessions have helped her feel more assured when using her own electronic devices, and she values having somewhere she can go to seek answers to her questions.
The hub received renovations during the previous year to establish lighter, more adaptable areas.
Proposals exist to transform Blaenavon and Pontypool libraries into community hubs over the next few years.
An association called Friends of Cwmbran Community Hub and Library is in the process of being established.
