MOTORISTS travelling through Gwent can look forward to an unobstructed weekend, with neither the M48 Severn Bridge nor the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge subject to any scheduled closures.

The M48 Severn Bridge, linking Chepstow with Aust, will stay completely accessible this weekend, with no shutdowns arranged for Saturday 28 March or Sunday 29 March. This comes after a recently completed series of weekend operations, with the final eastbound restriction concluding on Monday 23 March.

Although conditions had previously necessitated closures on the M48 because of powerful gusts, authorities report that both traffic lanes are currently functioning as usual. Nevertheless, they warn that forceful winds could still trigger sudden restrictions at short notice, although no such alerts have been issued for the upcoming weekend.

The M4 Prince of Wales Bridge will similarly avoid any closures over this period. This crossing handles travel between junction 22 close to Pilning and junction 23 at Rogiet. Earlier this month, overnight closures impacted eastbound traffic for repair activities, though current information shows no intended shutdowns for this weekend.

On the M4’s Welsh section, the majority of continuing works are positioned further westward or consist of overnight slip-road limitations that will finish by 6am on Saturday 28 March. Following this point, no restrictions are anticipated in the Gwent region for Saturday evening or Sunday.

Drivers are encouraged to monitor real-time information from Traffic Wales and National Highways prior to departing, particularly if poor weather conditions are forecast. For the time being, this weekend appears set to be considerably calmer on the two primary Severn crossings than recent weeks have been.
