An evening celebrating fresh Welsh-language drama is offering debut playwrights their opportunity to take centre stage.
The gathering, intended for those learning Welsh and recent speakers to present brief theatrical pieces in the language, will feature performances from a skilled ensemble.
These works emerged from an eight-month series of sessions created to help and motivate authors in producing new material in Welsh.
Producer and creator Tom Bevan explained that as a new speaker of Welsh, he had been searching for an artistic space where he could build his confidence in the language.
The concept for the initiative developed while he participated in Theatr Clwyd’s Open Book scheme at Theatr Cymru.
Constructing a nurturing community of Welsh learners who crafted scripts in Welsh for the first time had been truly remarkable and enjoyable.
The undertaking is steered by Tom Bevan Creative alongside the Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, forming part of Arts Council Wales’ Llais y Lle initiative.
Nia Morris has overseen the artistic development and will stage direct the presentation evening.
Among the premiering works are Dirty Sais by Sebastian Harker, Methu’n Well by Anthony Wheeler, and a segment from The Queens Coal by David McSparron.
Bachgen Balŵn by Tom Bevan will also feature in the programme.
