A primary school pupil from the region is making her mark in BMX cycling just a year after taking up the discipline.
The youngster’s interest sparked at a pump track in Gilwern when she noticed another girl riding a BMX competition bicycle.
She now holds both the South West’s leading ranking and the Welsh championship accolade.
Her mother, Jenna Mackintosh, explained that as a parent she never anticipated having a daughter who competes in BMX racing. She mentioned that the enthusiasm, dedication, and happiness visible on her child’s face after each event makes every financial commitment worthwhile. She hopes to instil in her the belief that with sufficient time and effort, anyone can accomplish their ambitions.
After spotting accomplished rider Libby Copping on a BMX at the Gilwern track, she signed up with Cardiff BMX Club in February 2025 and discovered that Libby was also a member.
She rapidly advanced from newcomer to serious competitor, taking part in area competitions throughout 2025 and clinching the South West championship in the nine-to-10 age group for girls. She subsequently secured the Welsh title and received a C1 classification.
Last August, she took part in the British Championships and completed the event in 14th position.
Currently, she is focused on competing at the national level with the goal of improving her standing sufficiently to earn qualification for the World Championships.
She attends coaching sessions two to three times weekly at Cardiff BMX Club under the tutelage of Gareth, Gideon, Huw and Tom, and frequently participates in club series competitions racing against male participants.
Ms Mackintosh mentioned that they are reaching out to their local community for assistance. As Roxy works towards these ambitions, they are actively looking for sponsorship opportunities to cover expenses including travel and equipment, enabling her to have the greatest possible opportunity to realise her aspirations.
Anyone wishing to support Roxy’s progression has been invited to make contact for further information.
