A £120 million healthcare facility in Llantrisant promises to accelerate medical treatment and revolutionise how patients receive care.
The Llantrisant Health Park, inspected by First Minister Eluned Morgan and Health Secretary Jeremy Miles, marks the inaugural substantial capital venture created collaboratively by Cwm Taf Morgannwg, Cardiff and Vale, and Aneurin Bevan health boards.
Situated adjacent to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, the centre will house an extensive diagnostic suite offering advanced imaging technologies including MRI, CT scanning, ultrasound, X-ray, and endoscopic procedures.
Eluned Morgan highlighted the project’s significance, emphasising how the investment would dramatically improve local testing capabilities and enable faster, more accessible health assessments for residents. She noted that following additional government funding and the dedication of NHS personnel, waiting lists have reached their lowest point in nearly six years.
The collaborative regional strategy seeks to maximise resources by distributing specialist clinicians and medical equipment across all three participating health boards.
Jeremy Miles expressed enthusiasm about the commencement of construction, describing the initiative as a clear demonstration of the government’s pledge to develop an NHS that serves all people in Wales. By uniting three health boards, practical measures are being implemented to bring down waiting times and enhance treatment quality throughout South East Wales. The facility will additionally prepare future NHS workers, equipping medical professionals to operate advanced equipment that will strengthen the health service both presently and in years to come.
The Welsh Government is contributing £120m to the scheme and has recently approved funding to develop a preliminary business case for subsequent phases.
The upcoming stage will establish a regional orthopaedic facility at the location.
Paul Mears, chief executive of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, stated that the Llantrisant Health Park signifies a promising advancement for healthcare delivery in South East Wales.
