A boxing facility in Newport is joining forces with law enforcement to provide health and wellness programmes in local schools.
St Joseph’s Boxing Club in Newport is collaborating with the Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner to deliver the sessions, which feature boxing-based activities.
Club trainer Billy Reynolds commented that this initiative is not something new for them, having offered Health and Wellbeing programmes to Newport schools for several years.
He added that their partnership with the Police Crime Commissioners now enables them to take things further by aligning their instruction with the national curriculum and maintaining a consistent schedule.
Every session runs for one hour and serves approximately 30 students per class.
Mr Reynolds is accompanied by longtime supporters Roger Williams and Tony Borg, together with additional trainers from the club.
Officers from the Pillgwenlly policing unit, PCSO Mark Watts and WPCSO Sam Davies, recently toured the club premises.
PCSO Mark Watts stated that this was his inaugural visit to St Joseph’s, and he emphasised that it would certainly not be his last, describing the club as an outstanding illustration of community volunteering.
He expressed enthusiasm about accompanying the club’s trainers to several of the school sessions.
