Pay packets are increasing while household bills are falling as part of a new package designed to address the cost of living crisis.
The measures, effective from today (April 1), encompass a boost to the National Living Wage and reductions to energy costs throughout the United Kingdom.
The National Living Wage has been lifted to £12.71, with the combined wage rises set to help up to 170,000 workers in Wales.
Younger employees will also see a rise in the National Minimum Wage to £10.85.
Jo Stevens, the Wales secretary, stated that hundreds of thousands of individuals throughout Wales would soon begin to experience the positive effects of measures being implemented to provide assistance with the cost of living.
She noted that reducing energy costs alongside raising wages means the government is fulfilling its core objective of putting more money back into people’s bank accounts.
Alongside the wage rises, household energy costs will drop by an average of £117 annually until the end of June.
This follows the reduction of the energy price cap through to the end of June.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer commented that millions of individuals across the nation would today see their energy bills decrease by £117, wages increase for the lowest earners, and additional help become accessible for those who need it most, because of choices this administration has made.
Other recent initiatives include maintaining the fuel duty reduction through September, allocating £53 million in extra assistance for homes most impacted by heating oil price increases, and keeping the £150 Warm Home Discount in place.
Mr Starmer connected the significance of reducing tensions in the Middle East to broader economic stability and cost of living challenges.
He said that more must be done to bring down costs, which requires working toward de-escalation in the Middle East and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
He stated this represents the most effective approach to reducing the cost of living for families and remains his priority.
Qualified householders will keep receiving the Warm Home Discount each winter through to the end of the decade.
