A transport firm headquartered in Newport has entered administration.
Freight Movement Limited operated as a family-owned trucking business located in Rogerstone.
The enterprise spent decades transporting cargo throughout the United Kingdom, delivering standard freight services, tailored logistics solutions and pallet distribution network operations for various clients.
Over approximately thirty years, it expanded into a mid-sized operation with multiple facilities, encompassing locations in Newport, Avonmouth and Cheltenham, and revenues reaching several million pounds.
Established in 1998, the business cultivated a standing as a dependable Welsh carrier serving both regional enterprises and nationwide contracts.
Nevertheless, similar to numerous logistics companies, it encountered escalating fuel and operational expenses, squeezed profit margins and vulnerability to clients who frequently failed to settle invoices promptly.
These challenges progressively eroded its financial position and rendered it increasingly susceptible to any substantial disruption.
The decisive moment arrived when one of its facilities – the Avonmouth operation – started incurring substantial financial losses.
With insolvency professionals taking over on 6 March 2026, the business was formally placed into administration.
There is a positive development for workers. Through a swift pre-pack arrangement, Monex Distribution, a division of the broader Monex Group, purchased Freight Movement’s commercial operations and resources.
This meant the trucks could continue operating under fresh ownership, clients could still receive assistance and, crucially, 61 individuals preserved their employment rather than facing immediate dismissal.
While the administration signals the conclusion of Freight Movement as an independent family enterprise, the transaction has safeguarded livelihoods and sustained a vital transport service for the area.
James Howells, Group Chief Executive at Monex Group Limited, stated that the company was delighted to have reached an agreement to acquire such a long-established business with deep roots, while simultaneously preserving the numerous skilled workers at Freight Movement.
He noted that the enterprise has built a robust network over almost three decades and the team looked forward to revitalising it by combining their respective workforces.
Under the Monex Group umbrella, there is genuine conviction that considerable opportunity exists within this enterprise, and it can expand once more. Its United Kingdom base and international connections, combined with the new addition to their portfolio, render the group stronger and more competitive.
