A yearly event celebrating transgender people took place on Tuesday, March 31 across the United Kingdom.
The occasion paid tribute to the resilience and achievements of the transgender population, which encounters elevated rates of discrimination.
To commemorate the day, Le Pub—a venue owned by the community that presents live music on the main shopping street—staged a trivia competition arranged by Pride in the Port.
One attendee mentioned that although she remains sober and generally finds pubs uncomfortable, she valued the occasion for its strong community atmosphere.
Jessica Howells described feeling it was pleasant to spend time with fellow community members.
The 37-year-old transgender woman from Newport told the gathering that being among others who shared her background felt lovely, and she discovered she could unwind and be herself more openly than she typically manages in everyday situations.
Aimée Jones, who is 26 and backs the transgender community, said the evening surpassed what she had anticipated and the turnout was excellent. She noted she had never felt so at ease surrounded by unfamiliar faces. The 26-year-old expressed how gratifying it was to witness people from various walks of life coming together for a pleasant night out.
Millie Barton, who describes herself as gender-fluid, joined in despite her quiz performance being underwhelming.
The participant mentioned how refreshing it was to occupy a space where she would not face criticism for displaying affection toward her partner.
The entrance fee was set at £2 per head, with all money collected going toward Pride in the Port, the first Pride celebration to take place in Wales, planned for September 2026.
Kim Partridge, the Partnerships Director for Pride in the Port, clarified that occasions such as this quiz function as entertaining social events while simultaneously offering chances to showcase presence and demonstrate unity with the transgender community.
The Partnerships Director stated that International Trans Day of Visibility presents a chance to elevate voices, exchange stories, and remind their community that they are appreciated for their true selves. Gathering individuals in an atmosphere that is inclusive and hospitable achieves this goal.
Robin Mitchell, a 27-year-old transgender festival coordinator from South Wales, asserted that in towns such as Newport where people congregate to show solidarity, these events communicate a straightforward indication that transgender people merit dignity, protection, and equivalent treatment.
