Man held in custody on multiple charges in Newport area case

A man aged 38 from Greenwood Avenue in Pontnewydd, Cwmbran has been found guilty after officers uncovered a large amount of prohibited content on his electronic equipment.

Matthew Bright submitted guilty pleas to possessing 31 category A indecent images of children, the most serious classification available.

He further acknowledged possession of 22 category B images along with four category C images.

The accused additionally admitted to keeping two extreme pornographic images showing sexual acts with a dead animal of unspecified type.

Newport Magistrates’ Court heard that Bright’s illegal conduct took place between August 1, 2024 and November 3, 2025.

The court handed down a 32-week custodial sentence, suspended for a period of 18 months.

Bright was instructed to carry out 100 hours of unpaid community work and complete a 30-day rehabilitation activity programme.

He must adhere to sex offender notification requirements for seven years and is bound by a sexual harm prevention order lasting five years.

The defendant was additionally ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge together with £85 in court fees.
