Officers are seeking witnesses and any available evidence following an intentional blaze at recently completed tennis and basketball facilities.
The emergency services responded to reports of a deliberately set fire in Blaenavon on the evening of Thursday 2 April.
Crew members from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were also present at the location.
A representative for Gwent Police stated that the community has understandably been upset by what occurred.
Considerable public money was spent creating these amenities for local people, especially youngsters, and this destructive act diminishes those investments.
This cannot be dismissed as harmless youthful behaviour.
Such vandalism constitutes a criminal offence and creates genuine, long-term consequences for the broader community who depend on and value these resources.
Family members and those responsible for children are being urged to remain alert.
Should your son, daughter or any young person arrive home this evening with the smell of smoke on their clothes or appearing out of the ordinary, authorities are requesting that you speak with them and think about getting in touch with the appropriate services.
Furthermore, a collection of house keys was discovered near where the fire took hold, and these remain in police custody. Anyone who believes they may be the owner should reach out to provide identification.
