Newport food enthusiasts can look forward to a new dining option arriving at one of the city’s vacant premises.
Low and Slow Barbeque is set to occupy the location previously run by Tiny Rebel, with the launch scheduled for sometime in the near future.
The regional brewery group shut the establishment on 31 March 2024, explaining that reduced customer numbers and increasing expenses had forced the closure after nine years operating in the city centre.
Following two years of standing unused, this Bristol-based smokehouse will now revive the premises.
The business was established by married couple Jack and Lyndsey, launching initially in 2016 as a temporary stall outside their neighbourhood butcher’s shop on Gloucester Road. The venture proved so popular that they graduated to a permanent outlet in St Nicholas’ Market seven years later. The company refers to that location as representing the finest street food trading in Bristol, with the takeaway counter providing an ideal spot for barbecue enthusiasts in the town centre to pick up meals to eat by the harbour, in Castle Park, or as an improved alternative to typical workplace lunches.
Their reputation and customer demand increased to such an extent that they subsequently launched another venue on Whiteladies Road, maintaining all the qualities that made their initial site successful.
This year, they will introduce what they describe as the freshest slow-cooked American-style barbecue cuisine to Newport’s already diverse restaurant landscape with their established quick-service format.
Low and Slow Barbeque announced the development to their online followers, describing the venture as a significant achievement for the company.
They stated that customers would no longer need to travel to Bristol for their 16-hour smoked meat, as they would be bringing smoked brisket, pulled pork, barbecue chicken, various house-made sauces and additional items across the Severn Bridge.
This launch comes after the recent arrival of Fowl & Fury within Newport Market, further expanding Newport’s culinary options going forward.
