A mother from Monmouthshire is transforming the dessert landscape by creating sweet treats that contain no highly processed ingredients.
Jaime White, who lives in Caerwent, has launched JJ & CJ’s Sweet Treats after struggling to find pre-made puddings free from artificial substances.
Her business offers crumbles, steamed puddings, and rectangular cakes, all made without any additives or chemical preservatives.
Ms White runs this operation alongside her work in pension and payroll administration while looking after her preschool-aged daughter, who inspired the CJ in the business name and taste-tests everything.
She stated that anyone with a dream who gets the chance to follow it should grab that opportunity completely.
She added that while it might seem frightening and there are moments when doubts arise, it can also become something deeply cherished.
She explained that baking provides her with focus and satisfaction, and sharing that feeling with others is what makes it so rewarding.
The idea came to Ms White when she realized how challenging it was to source convenient sweets without ultra-processed components.
She spotted a gap in the Monmouthshire area for traditional-style puddings made using simple, wholesome ingredients.
Her offerings feature beloved comfort desserts such as fruit crumbles and millionaire’s shortbread, all crafted entirely by hand.
The business complements her family life, with baking taking place during school time and after the evening meal.
She has already achieved the highest five-star food hygiene classification from Environmental Health officers and plans to open a community cake stand soon.
The self-service approach will allow customers to purchase treats locally, improving accessibility while maintaining the family-run ethos.
As someone committed to community involvement, Ms White also aims to take part in regional Pride celebrations and explore partnerships with nearby food producers.
