Neglected warehouse could become town’s new sports venue

A schemes designer has presented proposals to repurpose a storage building in Cwmcarn as a recreational centre, with padel courts forming part of the suggested uses for the facility.

Oliver Mason is promoting the vision for what he describes as a centre of activity and wellbeing at the Chapel Farm Industrial Estate. His documents submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council detail intentions to redevelop a vacant unit there into a sports and leisure hub covering a wide and niche range of sports set within a fun, relaxing environment that caters for all ages. The initiative would aim to accommodate between ten and 15 enterprises that currently have limited or no access to high-quality indoor facilities.

Mr Mason indicated that the activities available at the centre would include offerings not presently accessible in and around the Cwmcarn area. The submission features layouts for four padel courts within the unit. The court-based sport, which blends characteristics of tennis and squash, has seen increasing popularity throughout the United Kingdom in recent years.

The submission is presently being reviewed, and can be accessed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council portal using reference 26/0173/COU.
