Woman given prison term after taking gammon steaks, tinned tuna and cheese from shop

Published on

A man has been sentenced to prison after taking twelve gammon steaks, five cans of tuna, various food items and cheese with a value exceeding £250.

Forty-four-year-old Leigh Dight entered guilty pleas to four theft charges following his raids on Tesco, Sainsbury’s and B&M branches in Newport.

The court heard that his criminal activity occurred between February 20 and April 19, placing him in violation of a previous suspended jail term for comparable crimes.

District Judge Sophie Toms imposed a 42-week incarceration on the defendant, who resides in Clifton Place, Newport.

Dight must provide financial restitution upon his release from prison.
