Gwent Police have identified the 74-year-old Trevethin resident whose death is being treated as murder as Nicholas Brian Parfitt.
Officers from Gwent Police opened a murder case on Thursday evening after receiving word that a man had sustained serious injuries at a location in the Torfaen village. Emergency services arrived at a property on Bythway Road in Trevethin at approximately 4.55pm on 23rd April, where they were joined by personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service and Wales Air Ambulance.
The elderly local man was declared dead at the scene. Officers specially assigned to family liaison have been providing support to his relatives.
The family of the deceased offered their reflections, noting that the event had profoundly affected both loved ones and those who knew him in the neighbourhood. They described him as a cherished father and grandfather who was held in high regard throughout the community.
A 37-year-old Cwmbran resident has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder and remains in police possession at present.
