During the recent Easter Recess, I enjoyed getting out and about throughout the constituency to speak with local residents, businesses, and community organisations.
I had a productive meeting with Catherine Love, the recently appointed Chief Executive of Bron Afon Community Housing, to explore how we might collaborate to serve communities throughout Torfaen.
I was delighted to join members of the Welsh Gurkha Community in Cwmbran to honour their rich cultural heritage and strong community bonds.
One topic that numerous constituents have brought to my attention lately involves the dependability and consistency of postal services. I travelled to the Cwmbran Delivery Office to discuss these matters directly with management and to learn about the measures being implemented to address problems affecting various parts of Torfaen. I also took the opportunity to express my gratitude to our local postal workers for their dedication.
Meeting with employers in the area is always a pleasure. I sat down with representatives from Cranfield Colours, which is marking its 50th anniversary in Cwmbran this year. It was wonderful to hear about their current situation, and I wish them continued success in Torfaen as they continue providing employment opportunities for local people.
Regarding expanding opportunities, final arrangements were completed this month to secure the UK’s participation in the EU’s Erasmus+ programme beginning in 2027. This will enable more than 100,000 students, apprentices, and adult learners to apply for funding to support learning, teaching, and training experiences throughout Europe. The chance to spend a year immersed in another country’s culture while gaining an education is an invaluable experience for young people. I am pleased to have helped restore this opportunity for residents of Torfaen.
This exemplifies how a constructive UK-EU partnership can deliver real benefits to people’s everyday lives and career prospects.
