A motorist has acknowledged responsibility for the fatal collision that claimed the life of an elderly woman in a road incident that occurred two years prior.

The 56-year-old driver of a Ford Focus, Andrew Perry, confessed to causing the death of Gaynor James on Commercial Street in the Pengam district of Blackwood.

The woman lost her life following the crash at approximately 1:05pm on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

Proceedings were postponed until June 16 at Cardiff Crown Court to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be compiled.

Andrew Perry, residing at The Woodlands, Greenmeadow Bungalows, Glan-Y-Nant in Blackwood, received conditional bail from Judge Daniel Williams.

The accused was subject to an interim driving disqualification.

Heath Edwards acted as defence counsel, while Matthew Cobbe represented the prosecution.
