Published on

Police have apprehended two individuals following an operation.

The search took place at a property in Newport on Augustus John Close during the early hours of Thursday, April 30, resulting in the seizure of a substantial sum of money alongside mobile devices.

One individual, aged 56 and originating from the Cardiff region, alongside a 19-year-old from Newport, were taken into custody on suspicion of obtaining, employing or holding proceeds of crime.

The pair remain detained as investigators pursue their inquiries.

Inspector Roland Giles remarked that information supplied by residents proves essential in efforts to tackle the manufacturing, distribution and dealing of controlled substances in Newport.

He added that the morning’s operation demonstrates how contributions from the local community yield tangible results, urging people to keep sharing any suspicions or knowledge they may have.

Authorities are encouraging those with worries regarding unlawful drugs to get in touch via the 101 telephone number, through direct messaging on their Facebook or X platforms, or alternatively to reach out to Crimestoppers confidentially by phoning 0800 555 111 or using their online portal.

The precise location of the residence searched has not been made public, and officials have declined to specify the amount of currency recovered.
