A housebuilding company from Wales has gifted £250 to assist the Wales senior men’s hockey squad in their preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

Bellway Wales, located in St Mellons close to Cardiff, answered an appeal for assistance from goalkeeper Rhys Payne.

The funds will go towards covering the expenses of the team’s World Cup campaign, encompassing travel, lodging, training, nutrition, and equipment.

Payne expressed his gratitude, stating that the generous contribution will support the Wales men’s hockey team as they face the world’s top hockey nations on the biggest stage at the World Cup in Amsterdam during the summer.

He added that he takes great pride in having backing from a strong business and respected organisation, and is extremely thankful for the opportunity Bellway is providing him as a young Welsh sportsman.

He expressed hope that they would make Bellway proud and extended his thanks for the generosity shown.

The squad is getting ready to compete in the World Cup held in Belgium and the Netherlands this month.

This marks only the second occasion in Welsh men’s hockey history that the team has secured qualification for the FIH World Cup, having achieved their first-ever qualification in India in 2023.

He noted that this represents an incredibly thrilling moment for hockey in Wales and expressed confidence that the campaign will generate significant new interest in the sport across the country.
