One member of the musical act performing during an alleged assault on a 102-year-old man at a public house has resigned.
The individual, identified as Phillip Ormerod, aged 102 and residing in Cwmbran, allegedly fell from a platform at The Crow’s Nest establishment in Cwmbran approximately at 10.25pm on Saturday, August 1, having approached to request the volume be reduced.
He received hospital treatment and subsequently passed away during his stay in hospital.
The group Superhans, who were providing entertainment at the location when the event occurred, have now revealed that a member will be departing.
Local residents portrayed the deceased as an independent individual who frequented The Crow’s Nest establishment.
A person who observed what happened stated:
According to police and staff present at the time, the 102-year-old, who lived autonomously and was a regular patron, climbed the three steps to the stage to request the music be turned down.
He was pushed, causing him to tumble down the three steps and sustain a fractured hip.
At 102, such injuries are certain to result in life-altering, potentially life-limiting consequences.
Another individual labelled the occurrence as deeply disturbing and explained that the man was propelled with sufficient force that he did not merely stumble down the steps but was thrown clear of them entirely, landing on the floor below.
A 56-year-old man from Llanelli was taken into custody on suspicion of section 20 assault and has been released while inquiries proceed.
Gwent Police confirmed that a criminal inquiry is active and have called for additional witnesses to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Shelley Comley stated:
We recognise the public interest surrounding this matter, but wish to remind everyone that this is not merely an active criminal investigation but involves a family who are grieving the loss of a cherished relative.

Officers were present at the location alongside personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service.
Police are urging anyone who was present at the establishment between 10pm and 11pm on August 1 and who has not yet spoken to officers to provide information.
