Gwent roads grind to halt amid heavy traffic build-up

Traffic Wales has announced that traffic is building on the M4 in the Newport area.

We will provide you with the latest information on the traffic situation.

The M4 eastbound between junction 28 at Tredegar Park and junction 26 at Malpas is experiencing congestion.

The Brynglas Tunnel in Newport is seeing heavy traffic on the eastbound carriageway ahead of junction 26 where it meets the A4051 Malpas Road.

This is the current traffic situation.

According to the AA, there are delays of three minutes and these are growing on the M4 eastbound between junction 28 at the A48 Tredegar Park and junction 26 at the A4051 Malpas Road.

Vehicles are travelling at an average speed of 20 mph.

On the stretch between junction 24 at the A449 Coldra and junction 23A at the A4810 Magor Services, the AA reports delays of two minutes that are increasing.

The average speed here is 25 mph.

This is the view at junction 28 Tredegar Park.

The AA indicates delays of five minutes that are growing on the M4 eastbound between junction 28 at the A48 Tredegar Park and junction 26 at the A4051 Malpas Road.

The eastbound carriageway of the M4 through the Brynglas Tunnel is busy but traffic is still moving before junction 26 at the A4051 Malpas Road.

Congestion is increasing on the Malpas Straight.

There is congestion at High Cross East.

The situation has improved on the M4 eastbound between junction 24 at the A449 Coldra and junction 23A at the A4810 Magor Services.

The M4 eastbound between junction 24 at the A449 Coldra and junction 23A at the A4810 Magor Services is now clear of congestion.

Traffic Wales has confirmed the congestion has cleared.
