Newport’s Michael Sheen joins Celebrity Traitors 2026 cast

Published on

The lineup for the second installment of Celebrity Traitors was revealed this morning (May 2), with one well-known Welsh performer among the participants.

Welsh actor Michael Sheen joins the 21 celebrities hoping to don the cloak and create mayhem at the notorious fortress in the Scottish Highlands, competing for a charitable prize of up to £100,000.

Claudia Winkleman presides over the competition, where the celebrity contestants—most of whom begin as Faithfuls—attempt to identify the murderous traitors in their midst, who eliminate players during the night hours.

The inaugural season of The Celebrity Traitors broadcast on the BBC last autumn, with its gripping final attracting a peak audience of 15.4 million viewers, according to the channel.

The first season of Celebrity Traitors drew an average viewership of 14.9 million throughout its run.

The ensemble featured distinguished names such as actors Celia Imrie and Nick Mohammed, singer Paloma Faith, author and performer Sir Stephen Fry, broadcaster Jonathan Ross and comedian Alan Carr, who emerged victorious playing a Traitor.

The spin-off series achieved an average viewership of 14.9 million during its broadcast—the largest television audience of 2025.

What is The Traitors?

All contestants arrive at the castle as Faithfuls, though this quickly shifts as Traitors are selected from within the group. The Faithfuls’ sole objective is to identify and banish every traitor before the conclusion of the game. The Traitors must remain hidden and avoid elimination.

If the Faithfuls successfully remove all Traitors before the game ends, the surviving Faithfuls claim the prize money. Should any Traitors remain at the game’s conclusion, those Traitors win and take the funds.

In most episodes, participants convene at the Round Table to debate who they believe are Traitors and may ‘banish’ a contestant to remove them from the competition. The contestant receiving the most votes is banished and must leave the castle immediately, though not before disclosing their status as either Traitor or Faithful to the remaining group.

Most evenings, the Traitors convene privately and may collectively select a Faithful to ‘murder’ and remove from the game. The selected Faithful discovers they have been murdered, and the rest of the group learns the identity of the ‘murdered’ contestant during the following morning’s breakfast.

The Faithfuls and Traitors must collaborate throughout the game in a series of challenges and tasks known as ‘missions’ to potentially increase the prize pot, with a total prize fund of up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice in the celebrity version.
