A 36-year-old man has been barred from driving after being detected operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol on restaurant premises.

Lance Chapel was convicted of the offence at the fast-food outlet situated on Chepstow Road in Newport on Wednesday, July 29.

A screening device indicated 46 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of exhaled air, surpassing the permitted threshold of 35 micrograms.

Newport Magistrates’ Court imposed a 12-month driving prohibition.

The disqualification may be shortened by 13 weeks should he finish an accredited drink-driving remediation programme prior to March 14, 2027.

Chapel, residing in Beecham Street, Newport must settle £666, comprising a £415 financial penalty together with a £166 victim contribution and £85 in court costs.
