A major industrial blaze has erupted at a decommissioned oil facility in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, North Wales, with dense smoke rising high into the atmosphere.

Emergency responders rushed to the location at the old Impala site, previously operating under the Puma Energy banner, close to the abandoned Murco refinery at Robeston West just before 6pm on Monday.

Fire crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service are still working at the location this evening to bring the flames under control.

A service representative stated earlier in the evening that several crews from the authority were attending the incident at Robeston West in Milford Haven, urging people to stay away from the vicinity and use different routes to enable emergency vehicles to reach the site, while local inhabitants were told to keep their windows and doors shut if heavy smoke was present in their neighbourhood.

Emergency services are anticipated to be present at the location for an extended period.

Witnesses described massive columns of dark smoke ascending above the industrial complex, with the plume discernible across the wider Milford Haven area and further afield.

Photographs circulated online depicted large clouds of black smoke moving across the region as firefighters continued their efforts to manage the situation.

A minimum of two fire engines were dispatched to the location initially, though the complete extent of the emergency response has not been verified.

The reason behind the substantial fire remains under investigation.
