The Beefy Boys to open first Welsh restaurant in Cardiff creating 70 jobs

A burger restaurant chain has announced plans to establish its first Welsh outlet in Cardiff city centre next spring.

The Beefy Boys, which originated in Herefordshire more than a decade ago, has selected 12 Wharton Street as the location for its inaugural Welsh restaurant, scheduled to welcome customers from March 2027.

The establishment is projected to generate more than 70 employment opportunities within the city centre.

The company traces its origins to 2011, when four friends from childhood decided to launch their culinary venture by preparing burgers in their back gardens.

Anthony ‘Murf’ Murphy, Daniel Mayo-Evans, Christian Williams and Lee Symonds subsequently opened their first permanent restaurant in Hereford.

According to representatives of the business, Cardiff had been considered as a potential expansion site approximately every year throughout the preceding decade.

The founders indicated that the right premises had to be identified before proceeding with the development.

The forthcoming Cardiff venue will feature items including the Beefy Boy Burger and the Oklahoma Onion Boy Cali Style alongside loaded fries, chicken tenders, wings, milkshakes and cocktails.

The enterprise sources grass-fed beef from Herefordshire and prioritises partnerships with regional suppliers.

The business has accumulated several competitive honours.

At the 2023 National Burger Awards, The Beefy Boys secured victories in both the Best Burger and Best Burger Chef categories.

In 2014, the founders claimed victory at the Grillstock BBQ festival, which earned them participation at the World Food Championships held in Las Vegas, where they finished in second position.

Most recently, the team achieved fourth place at the World Burger Championships in Indianapolis during 2024.

Currently, the group manages fixed-site restaurants across Hereford, Shrewsbury, Cheltenham, Bath, Oxford, Nottingham and Exeter, with another location in Cambridge due to commence operations in November 2026.

The enterprise additionally operates two mobile food trucks serving events and festivals throughout the United Kingdom.

The founders have authored two recipe books.

The first volume, titled The Beefy Boys: From Backyard BBQs to World-Class Burgers, was published in August 2024 and reached number three on the Sunday Times bestseller list.

A second publication, The Beefy Boys: Great British BBQ, followed in May 2026.

Additional information regarding the Cardiff restaurant and available positions will be released in the coming months.
