The Newport and Islwyn area contains numerous exceptional enterprises, and as the regional representative in the Welsh Parliament I have been fortunate to visit many of them throughout my time in office.
Operating a business has never been straightforward, though the difficulties encountered have grown considerably in recent times.
Substantial business rates, mounting expenses, workforce challenges, rivalry from internet vendors, and inappropriate conduct in commercial areas represent just some of the matters significantly affecting traders.
Despite these obstacles, entrepreneurs throughout the constituency persist, confront difficulties directly, and maintain their service to local communities.
Establishing conditions that enable enterprises to flourish is essential, as is recognising the outstanding companies operating in our region.
Beyond providing numerous employment prospects for residents, these businesses form a crucial component of our economic structure and frequently occupy central positions within their neighbourhoods.
Such contributions warrant acknowledgment.
This explains my initiative to host the Best of Newport and Islwyn awards, and I encourage everyone to participate.
I am seeking to identify the finest establishment across several categories including restaurant, café, public house, retail outlet, takeaway service, and beauty business.
Which establishment serves the most impressive pint? Where did you enjoy an especially delicious meal?
When visiting the town centre, which shop do you regularly choose? Which café prepares the most excellent coffee?
Which takeaway do you reward yourself with at the weekend? Which hairdressing salon leaves you feeling fantastic?
