Monmouthshire Building Society posts steady £3.7m profit amid transformation

A period of business transformation has resulted in consistent profitability for a building society operating in south Wales.

Monmouthshire Building Society, whose head office is located in Newport, posted after-tax earnings of £3.7 million for the 2025/26 financial year, identical to the amount recorded the previous year.

Total assets edged up to £1.73 billion from £1.72 billion twelve months prior.

Marian Evans, chair of the board, stated that the organisation was satisfied with its annual performance, noting continued resilience throughout a time of considerable change and capital expenditure.

The society allocated £53,000 to 51 charitable causes and community ventures spanning south Wales, including aid to areas in Monmouth hit by flooding and support for financial literacy initiatives in schools.

Will Carroll, who began his tenure with the society in 2004 and held the position of chief executive, has departed after a 22-year involvement with the organisation.

He has been replaced on a temporary basis by Dawn Gunter while recruitment for a permanent successor continues.

Gunter commented that the 2025/26 financial results demonstrated robust performance and measured advancement as the society transitioned from an expansion phase into the initial phase of a major transformation and modernisation programme.

She noted that this represents an exciting period for the organisation as it builds upon existing accomplishments.

Monmouthshire Building Society maintains a workforce of approximately 220 staff across south Wales and the south west of England.
