Multiple wildfires remain active throughout the area as emergency responders tackle numerous fires, with authorities confirming a fifth incident in Ebbw Vale.

Firefighting teams continue operations in Gwent, where blazes have erupted at Pentre Tai Farm in Rhiwderin, Cwmavon Woods in Blaenavon, Rudry Common close to Caerphilly, and Wattsville Mountain near Newport.

An additional fire was reported on Manmoel Road in Hilltop, Ebbw Vale, on August 13.

Gwent Police have called on local residents to keep their doors and windows sealed due to drifting smoke and to avoid areas where fires are burning.

The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has cautioned that several of the recent fires were ignited intentionally.

An SWFRS representative stated that arson carries serious repercussions. Over recent weeks, crews have attended multiple deliberately lit grassfires throughout South Wales. These incidents endanger local communities, can harm residents’ wellbeing, put wildlife in danger, and pull emergency resources away from those who genuinely require assistance. The wildfires have also severely disrupted railway operations, with Transport for Wales announcing widespread cancellations and delays across its network.

Rail services between Bargoed and Rhymney were halted because of a fire alongside the railway line, while other lines experienced problems due to air-conditioning malfunctions and intense temperatures.

Services connecting Swansea with Shrewsbury, plus routes between Shrewsbury and Birmingham International, were suspended for the remainder of the day.

Substitute buses were arranged for certain journeys, and travellers were recommend to verify services before setting off, allocate additional time for their trips, and bring water with them.

The blazes come after a significant event in Pantside, Newbridge, where six residences suffered serious damage or were completely destroyed.

Approximately 20 individuals received overnight assistance at Newbridge Leisure Centre or were provided with alternative accommodation.

Caerphilly Council is collaborating with impacted households to secure additional temporary housing arrangements and will commission structural surveys of the damaged properties.
