A pair of well-known South Wales alternative music groups from the noughties are coming back together for a benefit performance.

Last of the Okinawa Fighters and Life! Death! Prizes! will take to the stage at Brynmawr Rugby Club on Saturday, September 12.

These acts, who were regular features of the Blaenau Gwent music landscape between 2002 and 2006, are staging their comeback after a 16-year gap to mark band member Fergus Rogers turning 40.

Chris Tookey, Angus Rogers, and Fergus Rogers will be joined on stage by original lineup members Chris Peet and James White.

The musicians have been getting ready since January to go through their back catalogue again.

The gathering, which requires no entry fee, intends to bring back the lively communal spirit of the mid-2000s Welsh music scene.

The show will also raise funds for the UK Stroke Association, a charity that holds special significance for the Rogers brothers after their father had a stroke last year.

The varied bill additionally features Moonface the Mage, an acoustic performer from the original FOAD days currently touring South Wales, Corned Beef, a Reuben tribute act reforming especially for this occasion, and Polgar, a new project fronted by acclaimed South Wales vocalist Harriet Whitehead.

Attendance is free, with contributions gathered both at the venue and online.

Co-organiser Gus Rogers explained that whether someone was part of the local scene back then or simply enjoys live alternative music, the evening is about bringing the community together for a worthy cause.

The groups originally formed under the banner of the local production collective FOAD, which staged weekly punk, metal, and alternative concerts throughout Blaenau Gwent from 2002 to 2006.
