A transport initiative in Caerphilly has secured fresh endorsement from the Welsh Government.

The Caerphilly Interchange scheme, intended to promote environmentally-friendly transportation and strengthen links across the region, has been included in the South East Wales Area’s 2026-27 Regional Transport Fund budget and endorsed as part of the Regional Transport Implementation Plan.

Councillor Jamie Pritchard, who leads Caerphilly County Borough Council, expressed appreciation for the Welsh Government’s ongoing backing.

Cllr Pritchard stated that the Plaid administration remains entirely committed to the Caerphilly Interchange, which aligned with his expectations. However, he noted that because of opposition expressed by Plaid representatives locally in recent times, he found it necessary to contact the Deputy Minister to confirm their support. The construction of the new Caerphilly Interchange is expected to proceed under a Plaid administration in Cardiff, and as he indicated when the new Welsh Government took office, he intends to collaborate with them to bring forward significant infrastructure schemes such as the Caerphilly Interchange.
