Gwent Police detectives are continuing their inquiries following the death of a 56-year-old man in the Pontypool area earlier this week.
Anthony Tony Jones, who resided in Brecon, sustained serious injuries during an incident of violent fighting involving several men on Mill Street in Pontnewynydd at approximately 7.15pm on August 6.
Jones was transported to hospital with severe injuries and subsequently passed away.
Mill Street and Hospital Road remain sealed off 70 hours later, with officers urging members of the public to stay away while investigators pursue leads around the clock.
Seven males, ranging in age from 31 to 73, have been taken into custody in relation to the disturbance and are currently being held by police.
Law enforcement officials are pursuing lines of enquiry continuously as part of the case.
A Gwent Police representative indicated that officers received notification of violent disorder involving several males on Mill Street at approximately 7.15pm on Thursday August 6.
A 56-year-old male, now identified as Anthony Tony Jones from Brecon, was conveyed to hospital with severe injuries and has subsequently died. Specialist officers are providing support to his family. Seven males aged 31, 39, 40, 45, 59, 61, and 73 have been apprehended in connection with the disturbance. All seven individuals remain in police custody.
Detective Superintendent Laura Bartley, the senior investigating officer with Gwent Police, explained that investigators understand this incident will generate concern within the local community, but officers are conducting enquiries on a continuous basis as part of the investigation.
Investigators are attempting to determine the movements of those involved both prior to and following the disturbance and are requesting that motorists who were travelling along Hospital Road, Mill Road and adjacent areas between 6pm and 9pm on Thursday review their dashcam recordings.

Detective Chief Superintendent Anne-Marie Salwey indicated that violence of any kind is entirely unacceptable and anyone discovered to be involved in this disturbance will be addressed appropriately, as such conduct will not be tolerated in local communities.
She recognized that reports of this nature would likely prompt concern among local residents and that visible police presence in the area conducting enquiries as part of the investigation could be expected.
Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage may possess information that could advance the investigation, and they are urged to speak with officers or contact the control room.
Jones’s family is receiving assistance from specialist officers, and investigations remain active.
