Caerphilly County Borough Council is seeking input from Gypsy and Traveller families through a fresh housing questionnaire.
The local authority is collecting data to refresh its Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment, which will be delivered to the Welsh Government during April 2027.
The questionnaire intends to establish present and emerging housing requirements within the Gypsy and Traveller community, encompassing the possible necessity for supplementary residential pitches.
This consultation commences merely four weeks after elected members in Caerphilly gave the green light to a Traveller family’s proposal for accommodation close to Risca.
The request, originally filed in 2021, experienced postponements because of an enforcement objection.
Carwyn Powell, a senior planning official, informed the planning panel that officers had advised approving retrospective planning consent.
This approval depends on the site linking to a main drainage system within twelve months, or else the permission would lapse.
Additional restrictions cap the quantity of touring caravans permitted and prohibit any business operations on the property.
Lynne Garnett, representing Travelling Ahead – a guidance and representation organisation financed by the Welsh Government – confirmed the household had occupied the parcel for over five years.
She mentioned that a nearby resident had described the family as thoughtful and perpetually obliging.
The household endured half a decade of ambiguity whilst awaiting resolution on the proposal, though obtaining a permanent address had enabled the family to experience considerable advantages according to Ms Garnett.
The questionnaire is being carried out by There & Back Again CIC on the council’s behalf and will accept responses until the fourth of September 2026.
