A public consultation has begun regarding proposals to establish a new specialist learning facility for students with extra educational requirements.

Newport City Council is seeking to open the class at Maesglas Primary School and is inviting community input until mid-July.

The facility would assist youngsters who need tailored teaching within a regular school environment.

A report analysing the consultation will be prepared, incorporating all feedback received during the engagement period.

This report will appear on the council website and reviewed before any final determination is made.

Those wishing to contribute can send their opinions via email to school.reorg@newport.gov.uk or post them to the Education Information and Development Officer at Newport City Council.

Only submissions through these official channels will be accepted.

Printed versions of the consultation materials can be obtained upon request.

Formal objections may only be registered during the statutory notice period, which comes after the current consultation concludes.

Should the proposal advance to this stage, a statutory notice would be published, giving the public four weeks to submit formal objections or declarations of support.

The ultimate determination rests with the Cabinet Member for Education and Early Years, or with the full Cabinet should objections be raised.
