A 29-year-old woman has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to assaulting three officers and committing a religiously aggravated attack on another person.

Kacey Foster, from Faulkner Road in Newport, received her sentence following multiple offences committed in the city on 29 April.

Foster confessed to attacking PC William Kittridge, PC Thomas Collins and PC Alexander Evans while they were performing their duties.

She entered guilty pleas to three charges of assault by beating against emergency workers.

For each charge, she was directed to pay £100 in compensation to the injured officers.

The court was informed that Foster also attacked Abdelnour Azougli and admitted to a religiously aggravated assault.

When passing sentence, the court handed down an overall custody term of 16 months.

The religiously aggravated assault attracted a six-month prison term, which the court stated had been raised from four months due to the religious element of the offence.

The sentences for assaulting the three police officers were each two months.

Two of those terms were directed to run at the same time, while one was imposed separately.

The court stated that only an immediate prison term was appropriate because the offences occurred while Foster was under suspended sentence orders and due to her prior criminal record.

Alongside compensation of £400, Foster was additionally ordered to pay £400 towards court costs.
