The BBC has announced that a fresh face will be appearing on Albert Square for a limited period.
Jason Durr, who previously starred in Casualty and Heartbeat, is making a guest appearance as Clive Masters, a brand-new character on the long-running soap opera.
Clive arrives in Walford as a local councillor, joining the community’s efforts to prevent the Community Centre from being redeveloped.
Linda takes on a leadership role and grows close to Clive when he demonstrates his backing for their cause, soon suspecting their connection may involve more than initially meets the eye.
In comments to the BBC, Jason expressed his enthusiasm about joining the programme. He noted that very few series maintain such a prominent position in public discussion, and said he was thrilled to become part of the cast portraying Clive Masters. He mentioned that collaborating with Kellie Bright had been thoroughly enjoyable from the very beginning. He added that the entire cast, production team and crew had shown tremendous warmth, hospitality and good spirits. He stated he was looking forward to viewers meeting Clive and discovering what unfolds.
The official EastEnders social media account broke the announcement on Instagram by posting a photograph of Jason, and supporters responded with excitement in the comments section.
One observer remarked that it was wonderful and that they were eager to see Jason in the show. Another wrote that the news was positive and that they had enjoyed watching Jason in Heartbeat re-runs playing Mike Bradley. A third individual commented that they had followed his work in Casualty for years and considered him an outstanding performer. Someone else suggested Jason merited a permanent spot in the series, calling him an excellent actor.
The timing coincides with the reappearance of the serial killer character Gray Atkins on the programme, portrayed by Toby-Alexander Smith. Gray received a prison sentence in 2022 after being convicted of killing Chantelle Atkins, Kush Kazemi and Tina Carter. Despite serving an indefinite sentence, he has returned to the soap for a brief period.
