The ballroom legend who serves as Strictly Come Dancing’s principal judge has offered her thoughts on the programme’s fresh presenting team.

The 65-year-old dance expert expressed enthusiasm about the changes during a recent conversation with reporters.

Willis earned particular commendation from Ballas, who described her as genuinely professional, while Radebe was hailed as an outstanding talent.

Widdicombe, the stand-up performer, was also embraced by Ballas as part of the trio unveiled earlier this week.

The trio enter the long-running BBC production following Daly and Winkleman’s exits at the close of the previous series.

Ballas will resume her position on the judging panel when the new season begins in September.

During the interview, Ballas also discussed her domestic circumstances.

She shares a home in south-east London with her 88-year-old mother Rich and characterised the arrangement as wonderful.

Rich handles the household chores including laundry and polishing her collections from a stepladder, much to her daughter’s concern. She prepares dinners such as vegetable stews while Ballas manages other responsibilities.

The pair function almost like partners, Ballas suggested.

Rich maintains her independence, unlike certain romantic companions Ballas has had in the past. Ballas noted she often found herself supporting previous boyfriends. Her mother prefers minimal fuss and allows her daughter to make her own choices.
