Newport man confesses to city centre break-ins and shoplifting

A 35-year-old man has admitted to carrying out thefts at businesses in Newport as well as several shoplifting offences.

Arron Young entered guilty pleas to three counts of burglary when he appeared before the local magistrates’ court.

The following items were stolen during the break-ins:

Goods valued at £1,500 from the Jewellery Repair Workshop situated in the Newport Arcade on April 17

Stock worth £5,700 from the Bar.Code cocktail bar on Rodney Road on April 19

Two Samsung tablet computers from the Neon events venue on Clarence Place on April 19

The defendant also confessed to the following shoplifting offences:

Food items worth £40 from Greggs on High Street in Newport on March 16

Confectionery valued at £220 from Tesco Express on Caerleon Road in Newport on March 25

Meat and alcoholic drinks worth £430 from the Tesco store in Risca on April 2

Food and drink totaling £15 from Tesco Express on Cambrian Road in Newport on April 3

Food items worth £14 from Tesco Express on Cambrian Road in Newport on April 4

Young’s case has been adjourned until May 21 to enable a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

The accused, who does not have a permanent residence, remained in custody ahead of sentencing.
